Instant Regret

It was a simple day. Amaryllis had decided to sit outside and read for the afternoon after having spent the morning making calls to her authors. The book she had picked was well worn and one of her favorites. She hummed softly as she turned the page. The day was hot, so she was under a tree with Maria next to her. Even the imp thought it was too warm to be on top of someone.

Amaryllis was quickly through the chapter and soon half-way through the next when it happened. Her book was pushed forward, then the snap of the balloon breaking. In a matter of seconds, she, Maria, and the book were soaked.

The greed bun blinked before lowering her book. She spotted the culprit who had wide blue eyes and ashen hair. He seemed stunned. Amaryllis frowned as she stood, trying to shake the water off her book. Maria glared at the lust bun before hopping on her owner’s shoulder. She took a moment to examine the damage to her book. The lust bun walked over.

“Hey, may I help?”

“You’ve done enough. This book was the start of my collection. And, thanks to you, I may never be able to read it again,” she snapped, turning to look at him.

“I’m sure it can be dried,” he tried to take the book from her, only to have some of the wet pages stretch and tear away from the book. He gasped.

Amaryllis dropped the book next to the bag she had brought out. The cold look on her face made the lust bun step back. The greed bun looked around for a moment before walking to a water gun.

She picked it up. It made a swishing sound, which was music to her ears. Turning back to the other bun, she noticed him take a step back. She smirked, beginning to walk back over. The ashen haired bun took another step back, only to trip over a tree root.

She stopped. “Stand up.” This was an order. He quickly stood. “I’m Amaryllis.”

“E-Egan,” he was unsure what to think of this Amaryllis. Commanding and cold, but polite.

“A bit like ‘egad’. Easy enough. Egan, you destroyed my book, irritated my imp, and ignored me telling you not to ‘help’.” She leveled the water gun. “Normally, I’d plan out something elaborate, that you wouldn’t see coming,” she waved the device a bit.

“W-what?” Egan stepped back again.

“I don’t tolerate my grievances like other people,” she hooked a foot behind his knee, swiftly bringing him down on her own terms. In a second, her foot was on his chest. “If you actually get to know me, you’ll learn that, especially if you meet Ness.” She steadied her aim before humming. She was taking far too much pleasure from this.

The lust bun was thrown for a loop, particularly from the light pressure on his chest. With his brain trying to catch up with everything, he gasped when water went up his nose. The spray made him glad he didn’t typically wear shirts, less laundry to do.

Once he recovered, he noticed a business card left under the tree and Amaryllis missing. He really picked the wrong bun to attack.
