Time Off

Preparations for the Gala had been smooth sailing thus far. Angora was busy making things happen and Mair got little attention from her due to that. So, in the grand scheme of things, this meant that he was free to do as he pleased for the most part. His work was largely done after allocating mountains of carats here and there in preparation for the event yet Angora had taken charge of the last stretch.

Everybunny was looking forward to the Gala.

Unfortunately for Seamair that meant fewer buns to play at the casino with as well.

Just as he was wandering about, fiddling with a small green piece of cloth he was trying to fold just right in order to turn it into a clover, a loud bang made him jump, caressing one of his long ears in passing as he looked toward the nearby doors to see what the fuss was about. Just as he turned around a flurry of black and purple briskly walked up to him.

"Why hello, Angora. Got some free time at last?" Mair inquired with a raised eyebrow as he tapped a deck of cards he had suddenly procured. It was a nice deck of cards - black, matte, with red and white colored suits.

Angora went to leave the papers she was carrying on a nearby table and Seamair smiled sweetly, shuffling the deck of cards. He always loved playing with her. For more than one reason...

The smile on his face soon faded, however, as his companion grabbed the cards from Mair's hands and pished him firmly towards the exit. Confusion was now written all over his face. "What's this about?" he inquired with a hint of playfulness to his voice.

"I need you out of here." the reply came.

"Excuse me?!" they couldn't believe their ears. "I'm still at work! You can't just kick me out-!" but his thoughts caught up to his words and before long he corrected himself "I mean, why are you kicking me out?" he reworded his inquiry. Surely as his boss she didn't intend to get rid of him? Right? The bun took a second to think over anything he had done lately that might've potentially pissed her off. 'Hm, don't think there's any-... aha!'

"Look, if that guy from last week came to complain I'd just like to say I won fair and square and it was his idea to bet services on top of the carats. I didn't make him do anything he hadn't already gotten himself into!"

His ramblings were, however, cut short as Angora snorted. Well, that was potentially a good sign? Seamair turned to look at her from over his shoulder. She looked amused. 'Ok, so not mad. That's a good start. Now, why does she want to kick me out?'

Before he had any more time to wonder, though, Angora took pity on them and graced them with a reply.

"Calm down Mair, I just want to prepare the place for the Gala."

"That doesn't explain why you're pushing me out the door." he pointed out.

Angora sighed. "I'd like the event to be a surprise." she admitted.

That wasn't something Seamair expected. "Wait. That's all? Angora, I've helped you prepare this, pick a theme, hired artisans along with you so that you could have things just as you wanted them and now you're throwing me overboard? I already know everything there is to know about the Gala."

Before he could continue on his tangent Angora stopped him.

They were right in front of the door by this point.

"Sure, even if that's true I'd like to have you take the last few days of preparations off. You've been an immense help, sure, but I'd like you to be astonished when you come back for the Gala. Just like everyone else."

"But-"

"No buts!" with one final push she closed the door on him, leaving him out in the open.  And with nothing better to do, Mair looked around for anything he could be of help with but as soon as Angora saw him trying to get back in he got chased once more. This time around she also tossed an envelope his way. When Mair took it and flipped it over he saw a fancy wax seal on the gilded envelope.

Well, not like he expected to not be able to go but an official invite? "Seems a bit much, Angora. If you wanted me out of your hair for a couple of days you might as well have just said so."

They put the invite away in their coat and dusted themself. Now that they had some free time on their hands for the foreseeable future until, and likely during, the Gala they needed to find themself something to keep them busy. After all, even if they were forced to take a short break from working for Angora that didn't necessarily mean he couldn't work something else.

"Maybe I should groom Queenie..." he muttered to himself as he started heading home. It was a bit of a walk from Angora's but Mair liked walking. It gave him plenty of opportunities to meet buns and visit friends. 'Hmm... wonder if Velvet's gotten an invitation as well. It'd be nice to go together.' As he was thinking that his feet carried him in the direction of his friend's house. Maybe he could have some tea and a chat.

Workaholics need rest too, despite what they might say about it. A good employer should always know how to get rid of them.
