Bonbon Bonanza: Park Date Cut Short?

Quince wasn’t used to feeling this anxious, ever really, but especially not when it came to her baked goods. She’s a professional, for goodness sake, and a talented one to boot. These feelings felt as though they were a chip in the boisterous, proud armor she wore every day. The doubt had seeped in so much so, that even as she stood over her stove and double boiler, melting down chocolate, she has considered just going to a chocolatier and simply buying an array of sweets instead. Sure, they would look nice, and taste nice, and DEFINITELY look expensive, but that’s not enough for her sweetheart Edie, is it? Quince contemplated as she watched the candy thermometer slowly tick up, doing her best to not get so distracted by her thoughts that she missed the next tempering threshold. She had wanted to make Edie chocolates that were homemade, so that she could really communicate her feelings and show her affection through her hard work, but now that she has gotten this far she’s started to worry that Edie may not be the type of person to get the message.

Edie’s profession meant that she was someone that received gifts quite frequently, be it from fans or other members in the industry. And unfortunately, on more than one occasion, Quince had been the audience to which Edie chose to complain about said gifts to. But a gift from someone she was close with, someone she shared ties with, that would be in a different category, right?

Well, it was much too late to think about it now, the ingredients were already being used, and Edie had already accepted the date invitation that Quince had extended to her. So it was now or never, she was all in.

‘Eighty-four…… eighty-three,’ Quince had about four hours until Edie would be meeting her at the park down the street, she still had to shower, and run to the florist. But that was easy because the flowers had been ordered ahead of time, and she knew she had gotten the right ones because she had heard from Satin the MANY woes of Edie’s floral gifts this season. Glancing back to her thermometer she clamored for the dial to increase the heat, realizing she had almost done exactly what she had set out to not do, “That was close. Okay, now back up to eighty-six.”

Quince picks up the final chocolate off of the tray they had been cooling on and gingerly places it into its patterned paper cup, inside the heart shaped container that would be gifted to Edie. She wiped her brow as she closed the box, tying the bow around the box as neatly as possible. All that was left was to shower and pack up the picnic basket.

Edie wandered through the neighborhood, on the way to her date with Quince. She might end up being a little late, but she could blame it on not living near by and not being familiar with the area, that would work. Quince was very forgiving anyways, and she knows how busy Edie is trying to get sponsored, she was lucky she even had time for this date. (Ignore earlier this morning, when Edie was giggling like a school girl and couldn’t help but wiggle her little bun butt when reading the invitation from Quince.) Edie rounds one last corner, hoping to see the park just around the next corner, and lo and behold there is an abundance of foliage, some of the smaller flowers and fungi glowing in the soft light of Burrowgatory. Rather than looking for her date, Edie was transfixed on the sheer number of succubuns that littered the area, More couples than she was able to count on her little doll hands were all here, celebrating Matentines. She thought to be upset, for a moment, that Quince hadn’t thought of a more original date idea for the two of them than this, but she thought better of it after realizing this meant more people were present to gaze upon her and her sweetie. As she entered the park, she adjusted the ruffles on her top and her skirt, so that they laid the best to highlight all of her curves, not really paying attention to where she was walking, and definitely not looking for her date. She was fully confident that Quince would be the one to spot her and fetch her.

Which, happened exactly as Edie had predicted. Several seconds later she heard the rich, velvety voice of her sweetie calling her name. Flashing a smile to Quince, Edie makes sure her motes glimmer as she quickens her pace slightly to meet Quince halfway. As is tradition between the two of them, Quince greets Edie by gently grabbing her hand, bringing it to her lips for a gentle kiss. Edie, rolls her eyes, waiting patiently for the actual kiss she would receive shortly after. It was quick, but mostly because Quince was nervous, and Edie could tell she wanted to get back to her blanket. She must have gotten here early, because the spot Quince had managed to snag be the best seat in the house. It was nestled underneath a tree with a beautiful canopy, one that had already started blooming as the cold evenings of the Cherubmas season had taken their leave. She had also decorated the blanket with two very plush cushion to sit on, with lap blankets in case it did manage to get chilly, (knowing how Edie likes to dress, this is highly likely,) and sitting right in the middle of the picnic blanket was the gorgeous bouquet of flowers Quince has gotten for her.

Edie squealed with excitement when she saw the flowers, rushing up to grab them before turning back around to meet her sweetheart’s gaze. “Darling, how did you know? They’re perfect!”

Quince blushed immediately upon receiving praise from Edie, moving a hand, nervously, to the back of her head she replied, “Well, I might have had a little bit of help from Satin.” She trailed off, noticing Edie’s brows furrow slightly, “B-but she didn’t tell me exactly what types to get you, just gave me a few hints is all. Promise.” Smiling with one side of her mouth, she waited for Edie to return the smile before relaxing her shoulders and letting out a small sigh of relief.

“It’s a shame I can’t keep them forever, I’ll have to ask Satin how I can preserve them,” musing to herself as she settled down onto her cushion, looking expectantly to Quince, waiting for her to join her. Edie could absolutely tell that she was nervous, and honestly, that excited her. Knowing that she had this strong, confident succubun wrapped around her finger, filled her with great delight. Tonight was going to be a fun one.

Quince slowly lowered herself down onto the pillow across from Edie, adjusting it slightly underneath her as she settled as to scoot just a little closer to Edie. She wanted to be able to smell her perfume, which, out in the open like this, surrounded by other eager succubuns, would require her to be up close and personal. “Well, I hope you like this next gift as much as those flowers. But you might have a bit of a harder time preserving these ones….” Her voice faded slightly as she turned behind her to grab the elegantly wrapped box of chocolates. Quince swore she saw new star motes appear around Edie as her eyes sparkled at the sight of the chocolates. Her heart fluttered at her sweeties reaction, it was exactly what she was hoping for. The excitement was palpable as Edie awaited the gift, Quince carefully removing the adornments that kept the lid secure. “These are my own special recipe. —For succubuns, not the ones for Imps, don’t worry.”

Once the lid was opened, she smell from the box immediately wafted towards Edie and had she not been so militant about her appearance in public, she may have actually started drooling. The chocolates, each individually decorated to give some kind of clue as to what was inside using glitters, shimmers, colored chocolate decorations, Quince spared no effort making sure these chocolates were a sight to behold. But regardless of how nice they were to look at, Edie wanted nothing more than to reach over and grab fistfuls of the sweets which she would then deposit directly into her mouth, but that wasn’t the carefully calculated image that she was upholding and so she waited. She waited for what felt like an eternity, the consisted of about ten seconds, while Quince grabbed whichever flavor it was that she wanted Edie to try first. Quince had probably told her what was in it, but it didn’t matter to Edie, she eagerly opened her mouth, just wide enough for the chocolate to fit, she wasn’t giving a free show out here on the quad. Chewing felt like heaven in her mouth as flavors sung together in harmony, a sweetness that was perfectly balanced. Quince watched in utter joy as Edie was clearly enjoying all of her efforts, the stress from earlier in the day completely melting away. And Edie was completely, and utterly infatuated with her partner, she had said the magic words, found the secret button, whatever metaphor you can think of. Quince had nailed this date, hook, line, and sinker, or whatever. Edie didn’t care to quantify it, make sense of it, or justify it, all she wanted was Quince.

“Sweetness,” Edie cooed to the peach colored succubun, “This might be the most decadent, luscious bonbons I’ve ever eaten.” Fluttering her eyelashes, she continued, “You just have to let me try another one, wont you?”

Her pleas felt like an arrow driving straight through her heart. “How could I say no to a face as lovely as that?” Quince carefully selected the next chocolate that she was going to feed to her beloved and gently fed her from the tips of her fingers. Except this time Edie’s lips closed around Quince’s fingers, her tongue pulling the chocolate into her mouth, making sure to graze as much of her partner’s fingers as she could. Quince stuttered in her breaths, not expecting the sudden change in the air, but it wasn’t long before the scent she was picking up on was clear as day to both of them.

Edie made a spectacle of licking her lips after consuming the second sweet treat, purring softly to Quince, “Baby? Whose house is closer? Mine or yours?”

Quince swallowed hard, knowing the look that was on Edie’s face all too well. She immediately started to grab their belongings off the blanket, shoving them back into the picnic basket she had brought. “Uh— umm, yours. Yours is definitely closer.”

Edie covered her mouth flirtatiously with one of her hands as she giggled at the frazzled bun. Standing up off the blanket, she fixed her outfit so that everything was, once again, perfectly placed and twirled her hips back and forth as she waited for Quince to lead her back home.
