Hàoyú took a moment to look up in the air and gazed at a simple yet busy store that is selling mochis and dangos. He scratched his chin for a bit with a furrow of his brow before entering the store with a curious look behind his eyes.
The sound of pounding hard on wood can be heard and Hàoyú knocks on the side of a wooden door frame as he looks at a familiar large succubun who is busy doing mochi.
"Dan, I am here now," Hàoyú said and continued as he entered the traditional-style kitchen with his small feet. His tail swishes behind him as he speaks more. "did you remember the appointment?"
Dan made one huge swing of the mochi hammer down to the soft mochi and stopped before looking up gruffly. "Remembered it clearly, you are here for the lesson... right?"
Hàoyú nodded and crossed his stubby arms. "Sure am, when can we start? You seemed busy."
"Because I am busy." Dan said and wipes off the sweat from his fur and chuckled. "I have a lot of mitarashi dango orders from the other succubuns. Some were more than I can handle so far."
The grey-furred succubun just nodded in understanding. "Then I guess I can help you." He tilts his head to the side. "I mean, it is a good way to train as well since I have never tasted mitarashi dango."
"So you wanted me to teach you a lesson of making mitarashi dango as a start? I mean..." Dan ponders for a while before nodding a bit. "I guess it is a fine offer. I teach you how to make mitarashi dango which also helped me in sending the orders faster."
Hàoyú smirked playfully and placed his hands on the side of his chubby hips. "Hitting two avias in one stone, yeah?"
"Sure thing." Dan smiled a bit before repositioning his position to swing his hammer again to his mochi. "Alright then, start by gathering the dango sticks from the shelves and the sacks of rice flour and jugs of water from the side."
Hàoyú took haste to gather the ingredients from the shelves and he quickly fixed them all up on the working bench. The smell of rice flour permeates the air as Hàoyú then looks around the kitchen for something that Dan took notice of.
"Finding something?"
Hàoyú grumbled. "Do you have a hair net or something, my fur usually falls off my body and I fear it may destroy the dango's quality"
Dan blinks and chuckles. "You worry that much?"
"Of course, nothing like feeling the utter disgust of tasting bits of fur while eating a good mochi." Hàoyú said and is still afraid of touching the ingredients further. Dan sighed and looked away, his eyes settled towards a familiar sight on a small shelf.
"There is some of it on that shelf over there." He said while pointing his mochi hammer at the shelf he was looking at. Hàoyú nodded in thanks and got to it as quickly as he could.
Dan took his time while pounding mochi to say some words of advice to Hàoyú on how to mix the ingredients well. How much rice flour needs to add, how much water to mix it in, and how to efficiently mix it with his bare hands.
It is a great exercise for an indoor bun like him, moving and kneading his stubby arms on the squishy mochi under his small hands.
"Make some of it into some batches. Some for me to pound with and others for you."
Hàoyú looks over him by his shoulder. "You gonna teach me to pound mochi now?"
Dan nodded with a prideful look on his face. "You bet I will. What else are you gonna do? Punch it?"
He just rolled his eyes in response to Dan's words. "I guess more workout for me."
"Why do you want to learn mochi anyway?" Dan asked as he continued pounding mochi with his hammer with strong and accurate swings.
"For a friend..." Hàoyú answered simply with a small smile. "He may be a greed succubun, but he likes to eat sweets whenever there is availability in the kitchen."
Dan nodded in understanding before taking one more big swing down to pound the mochi before taking it. "Come here and watch me."
Hàoyú placed his gaze on Dan's form as he took the mochi from the wooden mortar and began placing it on a table with bits of flour coating it. He begins ripping some of it off.
"Now, get a portion of it and use this stuff." He said while showing an odd-looking rolling pin with circular edges on it. "These can help to form the dango balls. If it is homemade, I suggest forming it with your hands like how you do with rice balls."
"Repeat after me, Hàoyú."
Both buns grab a portion of the mochi as Hàoyú learns from the master confectioner with a watchful eye. Roll the mochi into a squishy ball, add some filling that they like, and penetrate each ball to a dango stick.
Hàoyú huffed but smiled softly. "I thought you gonna help me teach how to pound it."
"You already watch me do it countless times when you come by," Dan said with a smirk. "I believe you know a thing or two about it already."
"It is better to know how to measure the strength of how to pound it by watching it anyway," Hàoyú said as he sighed. "What better way to show such strength than by adjusting it with the help of a master like you?"
Dan shakes his head with a chuckle. "You flatter me. But sure, I guess I won't mind helping you how to swing the hammer."
He gave the handle of the hammer towards Hàoyú for a bit and he smiled. "Pull up your arms and swing it down. Make it hard but not enough as if you have anger to it."
"Pull it back a bit as if you are careful too." He continued as he gestured his hand down as if ordering Hàoyú to do the deed.
Hàoyú huffed and with a swing of his stubby arms, he set down the hammer and pounded the mochi as best as he could.
Hàoyú arrives at the best time for dango and mochi classes. Making mitarashi dango with the best mochi maker of the whole Burrowgatory during his flood of orders.
