A Walk in the Park

It was that time of the year again. Where every little bun got their beloved some kind of gift to show their devotion to another. May it be flowers, chocolates, maybe an itty bitty imp plush…Everyone was prepared with some kind of gift ahead of time!

At least, almost everyone was prepared ahead of time. There always would be one or two who would lose track of time or simply forget about it until the reminder was served like a slap to the face.

“Shit, shit, shit, shit-” Chuck would curse to himself as he paced the park. It was Matentines, and he hadn’t gotten Konstantinas a single gift. Funds were awfully this tight this month, no thanks to his impulsive purchases…He didn’t really need another pair of cowboy boots, but they sure looked awfully nice. Chuck wondered for a moment if he could get a refund on it, and get his carats back..but he did scuff them a night out. The shop wouldn’t take them.

He was out of time, out of carats, and out of ideas. The bun gripped his long fur in frustration, gritting his teeth as his mind rattled for some kind of solution. Unfortunately, he would keep drawing blanks.

“Ugh…Kon’s gonna kill me…” He grumbled in defeat, dropping his hooves and looking towards the ground. He was absolutely ready to accept what was coming to him. Those stern, disappointed eyes when Chuck would have to admit he had nothing to show for such a romantic time of the year. However, his eyes caught something within the grass. Something…red.

He lowered himself slightly, picking up the plant.

“What is this…” His eyes recognized it. He’s seen it before. Then the name popped back into his brain and his eyes widened ever so slightly.

A Camellia. A flower very much associated with love and devotion. Huh!

His head looked forward and his eyes were pleased to see more of the red flowers. Granted, not many as he wished, but they were enough.

Oh…maybe he wasn’t doomed just yet!

The bun would hurry towards it, haphazardly picking up one or two more.A smirk growing on his face as he placed the flowers right under his fluffy little arm…three whole camellias!

“Mmm…” It didn’t feel like enough. No, he knew that it wasn’t enough just yet. Usually, these things were more than one flower, weren't they? Yeah, he could recall that a bouquet had multiple flowers. That shouldn’t be too hard in the park, right? He already found one, so a few more shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

His eyes scanned the park, trying to find another bush that might serve to help with his little quest. A small gasp left him as he spotted tiny white specks on another bush a little further into the park. The ginger bun hightailed it towards his next bush, and the flowers became more and more clear the closer he got towards them.

“Okay…now what are these…” He stretched the last word slightly as he squinted at the plant. His brain was trying to think of the name. “...Petunias?”

White petunias. These had a sweet meaning, didn’t they? Chuck recalled hearing it once. Something to do with trust and dignity. At least, he sure hoped he remembered that right, but he told himself there was no time to stop and do a search. What if somebody else came by and took the entire petunia bush? Just because it was highly unlikely, didn’t mean it was impossible.

So, like before, the cowboy plucked three flowers and put them with his other findings. He examined them for a moment, admiring his handy work. Mm…white and red flowers seemed like an awfully good color scheme. He could talk about how these represented him and Kon…Cause Kon has white fur and Chuck had…a red jacket. It needed a little bit of workshopping but so far, so good! He just needed one more kind of flower to tie this all together, and he would be home free…For the most part anyway. At least he wouldn’t go home empty handed. Now, what other flowers could be found around here?

The last type of flower felt like such a search. The perfectionist within him was peeking its ugly head. It needed to work with the scheme he had going. And perfectionism came with self doubt. What if Konstantinas didn’t even like these? Would the whole effort be for nothing? He was getting into his head, and almost missed the tiniest little bush that was hiding away in the foliage. He halted his steps, carefully walking over towards the mysterious white flowers. They were the same colors as the petunias, but not the same shape. He had seen them before though…maybe once in his bunny lifetime.

Gardenia. Flowers that are to show harmony and gentleness…Something that he felt Kon gave him plenty of. A flower that evoked hope. Something that Chuck had for the two of them. It felt…awfully cheesy to think this way, but it was genuine.

The cowboy would pick up three…No, four of those for his bouquet. The more the merrier was his motto. He looked at the flowers all together, analysing them from different angles in his hooves.

“Mmmm….”

He took fibers from the frayed end of his rope, tying them around the stems of the flowers. Now, this was a bouquet with time and effort placed into it.

“Perfect.”
