An Arrangement of Flowers
To: Sasha
From: Anonymous
Sasha stared at the card that came along with his surprise gift: an assortment of flowers. It was no brainer that being in the Arts flowers could be given in response to a show. In high regards too nonetheless.
The mere thought of that got Sasha giddy. Him? Finally getting recognition? For his art?
Finally! Someone could appreciate his hard work and understand his vision. It was an easy way to fuel his ego. Except there was one thing…What do these flowers mean?
They weren’t the typical bouquet of roses. Instead there were two kinds of yellow flowers and a red one.
…Huh?
He was confused to say the least on these mysterious flowers that he grabbed the card he skimmed through if there was anything else. Sasha squints his eyes as he mutters to himself the contents of the letter.
“I hope you appreciate this gift. These flowers have been thought of out of love and care! A gift for your hard work on your upcoming projects!”
A kind sentiment that further inflated his ego but he needed to focus on the task at hand—what did these flowers meant. Sasha flipped the card around and there it was. A nicely written description of each flower.
“Amaryllis—red flower…”
Sasha observed the red flower in the bouquet. The flower was a decent replacement for a red rose. Displaying six petals in a nice star shape. It was beautiful to look at and was almost better than a typical rose. It was nice and different…
He continued to read.
“Symbolizes: Pride.”
Sasha pursed his lips together. The flower did call him out a bit—just a bit—of his earlier displayed thoughts of pride and thinking he was king of the world. Whoever sent these bouquet of flowers most certainly put much thought into this. It made him question who exactly was the anonymous bun who sent this out to him. Sasha was curious what the other flowers meant so he continued to read.
“Evening Primrose—yellow.”
There were two different yellow flowers.
“Need more than that,” mumbles Sasha as he tries his best to differentiate the two. One was slim, the other was a more oval shape. He huffs and continues reading hoping there was more to this. But there was little hint as to which one it was except another flower listed. Same color description but a different meaning.
Oh well. At least he can read what the other one was before getting to the other.
“Evening Primrose—yellow.
Inconstancy.”
….
Okay this person really was digging deep into him. The flowers began to feel like a jab to his side instead of something pleasant and nice. Sasha couldn’t help but think that this was a critic of sorts rather than a fan and this was a more “nice” way to give Sasha feedback for his work. His assumption only to be proven right as his eyes scanned through the next words.
“You seem inconsistent in your writing and ideas, but it's admirable of your different ideas. You don’t seem to stick to one idea. Perhaps down the line you’ll be able to stick to one idea…”
“Ridiculous!”
Huff and puff! He felt himself growing more and more agitated as he reread the sentence over and over again. This was a critic no doubt about it.
“If anything it's good to have variety! Just sticking to one thing would be boring and predictable. We’d have the most boring thing without it!”
Sasha wasn’t looking forward to reading the next description of the card. His chest already was flaring with anger that he felt like the next one would be worse. Adding salt to his wounds. He already had his ego damaged that he wasn’t looking forward to it being further damaged.
“Forsythia—yellow.
Anticipation.
You seem passionate about your work. Like you’re making a big name for yourself, waiting for that special breakthrough. I feel you will achieve this soon enough.”
…
I guess that was better than the other two… he thought to himself. At least the anonymous…admirer? Critic admirer? Ended this card on a somewhat good note. Regardless, Sasha couldn’t help to let out a deep, deep sigh.
It’s probably best to work harder down the line.
Hmph…
And maybe he gets a bouquet of roses instead of this nonsense.
Sasha receives a bouqet of flowers from a fan..
