Mochi Moon with Quince and Mademoiselle
Leaving out handmade mochi for Allocer had always been a tradition, passed down by generations. A bun shall lay them out every Mochi Moon without fail. If they fail, it could have serious consequences. Or could it? None have dared to try and find out. Only Allocer could know the possible truth behind that scary myth. Yet none have seen him. Forever a mystery to the Succubun world. But with this story we certainly come close to seeing what happens if a bun was to miss the tradition.
The morning of the Mochi Moon, Quince awoke to a small kitchen fire which was somehow started by one of their pedigrees. She rushed to see the commotion and tried to trace the origin of the accident. It took a moment but once she saw Mademoiselle's face was covered in a gooey, melted substance Quince panicked. Quickly looking over at the place on the counter she had stupidly left her precious Mochi for the yearly event. They were gone. THEY WERE GONE! Quince had carefully put them in a tightly sealed air tight container, the same container she used to pop them in the freezer overnight. Somehow in Mademoiselle's struggle to get the container open, she managed to turn a gas eye on the stove on. After a second of confusion, panic, and anger Quince put out the fire and scolded Mademoiselle while cleaning off her face. She locked Mademoiselle in her crate as a punishment for the action. Now she can panic and be angry without Mademoiselle causing more commotion.
Quince had used the last of many of her ingredients to make the Mochi offerings the day before, and Mademoiselle had just devoured them. Now she was in a time crunch to find the ingredients. She quickly wrote down what she needed in a tiny notebook. Nearly tripping over every surface, box, and air as she scrambled around to find her apron and accessories. By some miracle she didn't fall and managed to grab her things and head out to find all of the ingredients.
Quince began running around the Bun Marketplace trying to find her water, sugar, and flour. She kept running into the same problem. No one had any of her ingredients. The more time passed the more anxious she became. As the night was arriving, she still needed to make the Mochi. Finally she ran into a rather small and creepy looking bun that had just the ingredients, except they wanted a small fortune of carats. After much deliberation and a small amount of tears as she looked in her apron. Quince reluctantly handed over the carats and ran home, trying not to cry more after having to give away that many carats.
Once home she finally began preparing the Mochi. Mixing the ingredients, pounding them carefully, and storing them in the freezer to harden. Once done she sat down and relaxed slightly. Grabbing a dango to snack on as she waited. Looking at Mademoiselle in her cage, she decided it was finally time to let her out. Who knew a sweet looking dog would be so into sweets. A no brainer to some, but it never crossed Quince's mind.
After a couple hours of the Mochi being in the freezer, Quince took them out and laid them on the Altar for her offering. This time putting Mademoiselle away first.
Thankfully this year, Quince didn't have to find out if something bad would happen without the offering. But next year… one may never know. Maybe Mademoiselle will do such a thing again or maybe Quince will be more careful where she stores her sweets next year.
I frankly am not educated on much lore and have never done a writing prompt i dont think? My memory is shot, but have my little one-off story.
