Mochi Munching and Making!

Another moment and another fun tradition for Mochi Moon that Seth had read about. At least these things were a tad more social than staying indoors all the time. Now it would seem as if he gets to learn about mochi itself and how it’s made.

“I wonder which flavor I would like… Or what kind of colors it comes in WITH those flavors… So many to choose from just by peeking in the shop windows…” Seth mumbled as he stopped to peek in a window briefly.

Today, however, he had signed up for a class on how to make it himself. It was a tradition to leave handmade mochi out for Allocer, who might bless one upon receiving the gift. This seems like a win-win situation for both: He makes them handmade mochi and gets to test it, and Allocer gets a good-tasting treat after he perfects it.

“I’ll just set out the better ones I make to make up for the other lumpy ones I’ll eat myself… It’s better that way so then they get the better ones…” Seth nodded to himself and made his way over to the shop selling dango to learn a bit about mochi.

As he made his way into the shop, he greeted the owner quietly and made his way around to peek at stuff that was for sale before making his way to where the class would take place. He believed this place was predominately a dango shop, from the name and owner alone, but it was nice to find them branching out and even going so far as to assist with mochi.

“Welcome to the class. I bet you will have some fun with the pounding technique~ Although, you seem a bit small to be that strong… Guess we’ll find out soon enough~” The owner Dan said as he went to grab the tools they needed for the lesson.

“I have been told I’m a bit stronger than I look, so I hope I don’t break your tools…~ Heh~” Seth chuckled as he moved to where he was instructed.

It wasn’t long before another two buns would be joining them in the lesson, sitting behind their stations and getting the little instruction lists from the counter. Seth would be lying if the thought of two other unknown faces being in the same lesson didn’t make him a bit nervous if he happened to mess up. This should be as easy as… Well… Not PIE, but the end result might be similar.

Seth picked up his ingredients, mixed them well to the dot, and then got to work making the mochi in a semi-controlled manner. He only managed to hit his hand about four times throughout the lesson, so that was a plus!

A while later the class had finished up quite nicely. They had gotten to taste-test a few flavors and pick from them in the end before mixing those into a small batch to take home with them. Seth left with a few more bandages than he would have liked, but that was beside the point as he now had some yummy little goodies to share with the being who might want to try a snack.

“Thank you again for the lesson and uh… The bandages… I didn’t think that I would hit myself that many times but here we are… Maybe I’ll come back again and try to make dango next. It seems a bit similar…~” Seth said as he stood with Dan near the door, holding his small bag of goodies on the to-go plate that was made up for him and the other guests.

“You are all welcome back any time~ And don’t worry about it. When I first started… I’m sure I wasn’t anywhere as good as I am now haha~ I would love to have you back for another class on dango. Those have some more interesting flavors, too!” Dan stated proudly before giving Seth a caring pat on the back with a grin and nodded at the thought of the next class.

After a moment more of chatting, Seth waved goodbye and started on his way home. He wanted to make a nice little plate for the blessing maker at the very least. It was one thing to just slap the mochi on a plate and call it a day, but he was one that always went a bit above and beyond.

He got down a nice decorative plate and placed some of the mochi in the middle nicely, placing an unlit candle next to it for show. He then placed that on a tablecloth and wrote a short ‘thank you – Seth’ on a notecard next to it.

With that settled, Seth yawned and stretched before making his way up the stairs of his small home to his bedroom. He got ready for bed and then laid down before drifting off to the thoughts of mochi bouncing over fences like little sheep.
