[Comm] Dolce’s bizarre adventure(Pt 2)
“Thanks Beanny!” Dolce called over his shoulder, barely avoiding slamming into another bun as he left the Paradise Cafe.
“Oops, sorry!” Dolce cast them an apologetic smile as his hands tightened around the pink take-out cup in his hands. There was a cold breeze this morning, so Dolce had decided to treat himself with something warm to sip.
Now, what to do today… Dolce took a sip of his drink and hissed softly as he quickly realized his tea was still very much HOT. He stuck his tongue out, letting the cool air soothe the scalded flesh as he continued meandering aimlessly.
“... What are you doing?”
A stroke of good luck: Dolce managed not to spill his tea or bite his tongue as he whirled around to see who had spoken to him.
But of course, there was always bad luck as well: the bun who had spoken to him - and therefore had seen him walking around with his tongue sticking out - was none other than his crush, blonde hair shining gold in the light from his halo.
Dolce pulled his tongue back into his mouth, feeling his cheeks heat. “Oh, umm… Tea?” He held up his cup pathetically.
Primrose raised an eyebrow, making Dolce blush even more.
“I uh, burnt my tongue... So I was cooling it….”
“I see…”
The two cherubuns stared at each other for a moment, Dolce in mortification and Primrose seemingly deep in thought before the latter eventually spoke up. “Oh, speaking of tea, are you free today? I could use a helping hand.”
Dolce blinked, then nodded. “Yeah! I’d be happy to help, what do you need?”
“Follow me.” Primrose starting heading towards the greenhouses that held the ambrosia plants, glancing back only once to make sure Dolce was following.
~~~
When they got to the main greenhouse, Dolce glanced around, brow furrowing in confusion as he realized that not much had happened with the ambrosia yet. Well, it’s only been a few days since we planted them. So then what -
“Here, Dolce.”
Dolce turned to see Primrose holding a large canvas bag out towards him. He shifted his hold on his tea - which had cooled enough by this time for him to have dranken half, thank goodness - to one hand and reached out to grab the bag. “What’s this?”
“You know Dove, yes?” Primrose waited for a nod from Dolce before continuing. “There’s a special type of tea that doesn’t grow very well in Burrowgatory soil, so I make sure to leave room for it to grow in the greenhouses up here… to thank them for all the work they do to make new arrivals from the Meadows feel at home.”
Dolce looked down at the nondescript bag and realized that the contents were a lot more important than they seemed at first glance. “Oh, and you need me to deliver it to them for you?” If Dolce remembered correctly, Dove lived down in Burrowgatory proper, so it would take Primrose a lot of time to deliver it by himself.
“Yes, please, if you don’t mind.” Primrose gestured around the greenhouse. “While it may not look like it to you, I still have a lot of work to do even if the ambrosia hasn’t sprouted yet.”
“Yeah, of course!” Dolce nodded enthusiastically. “I’ll get on that right now ~”
~~~
Dolce looked up at the house, down at the note in his hand, and back up again. He nodded to himself and went up to the front door, knocking three times and stepping back to wait.
After a moment the door opened, revealing a tall Envy succubun with long dark hair and a leather jacket. She looked him up and down, green eyes narrowing. “Hello?”
“Um, hi! My name is Dolce; Primrose sent me to deliver something to Dove.” Dolce held up the bag of tea leaves and tried to peer around the Envy doll further into the house. “Am I at the right place?”
“It’s tea, yeah? C’mon in.” The Envy doll stepped aside, gesturing at Dolce to come in. “I’m Jackal, by the way.
“Thank you!” Dolce entered the house, taking a look around as Jackal closed the door behind him and gestured at him to head down the hallway. The house was nice, and spacious without being too big. Dolce recognized some of the decor trends they had back in the Meadows, mixed with some things that definitely looked like they were Jackal’s additions.
“Dove? There’s a visitor here for you.”
Dove looked up from the book they were reading as Dolce and Jackal rounded the corner into the kitchen, smiling widely as they saw them. “Oh, Dolce, hello!”
“Hi Dove!” Dolce felt his cottontail wiggling as he grinned back at the other cherubun. “Primrose asked me to bring you some of the special tea he grows there!” He held up the bag as he spoke.
Dove's eyes lit up and they gasped softly as they got up from the table and came over to Dolce to take the bag from him, carefully setting it on the kitchen counter. “Thank you so much Dolce! I was worried the plants weren’t going to be ready to harvest before the cold set in.” Dove opened the bag and began rooting through the leaves, sorting them by size on the counter. “Would you like to stay for some tea?”
Dolce opened his mouth to agree, then looked down at the now-empty Paradise Cafe cup he didn't realize he'd still been carrying around. “Oh, no thank you. I had some this morning and I think I'm… too full…? To appreciate it properly.”
Dove giggled at his explanation, then pulled a plastic baggie out from a drawer and began loading tea leaves into it. “Then take some leaves for yourself! There’s a lot here, and I'd feel bad sending you on your way without a proper thank you.” Closing the baggie, they handed it to him with a smile. “Well, I'm sure you want to be on your way, hmm? To tell Primrose that you finished your ‘quest’?”
Dolce's face exploded with heat as he noticed the other cherubun's playful expression. “Ah - I , um -”
“C'mon Dove, leave the bun alone.” Jackal chuckled, tugging the empty take-out cup from Dolce’s grasp.
Dove giggled again, beaming up at Dolce. “Sorry to tease, Dolce, I just think your crush is so cute. Anyways, thank you again for coming all this way to deliver the tea, and I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to try it ~”
