Intermission: Meeting Beanny
One may think that Carmen would avoid going to outside cafes having spent most of his time in them due to being a barista. The sloth bun had decided on a whim to go to a place called Paradise Cafe, a coffee house that held it's base inside the heavenly embassy. This would be Carmen's first trip to the embassy, the elevator up to the Cherbun's cloudy home had been intimidating to say the least.
Pushing the door open to the cafe, a bell rang signaling his entrance. "Welcome in." Beanny said from behind the counter, she was quick to note that Carmen seemed to be a new face around these parts. "What can I get you?"
Carmen pauses, eyes scanning the menu as he felt a bit overwhelmed with the new options in front of him. Truth be told while he was a barista himself it was just a job. He didn't hold any special interest towards coffee, and only bothered to learn the menu at his word place to better deal with recommendations for customers. "Ummm..." He was stumped.
"Not sure what you're looking for, hm?" Beanny could easily pick up on Carmen's inner turmoil. "I'd recommend our Special Brew, if you're looking for something a little stronger." The Cherbun suggested, tapping their fingers against the counter lightly as she waited for Carmen's response.
Typically, Carmen was more out-going than this, more cheerful. He had come to this cafe in hopes for a pick-me up, a new place to help get his mind off recent events. "Ah, yeah, that sounds fine with me." Carmen mutters, reaching into his bag to fish out his wallet.
"Great. What's your name? Did you want it for here or to go?" Beanny asks, their hand reaching over for a cup, hovering while they wait for Carmen to reply.
Carmen blinks, before realizing she wants to write his name down, "Oh, uh, Carmen and I’ll take it for here." He says, his eyes quickly darting back to his wallet to fish out the money.
Beanny hums in reply, taking the money from Carmen and quickly going about making his order. "That'll be out for you in just a moment."
"Thank you." Carmen replies, deciding to sit down to sit down at the coffee bar in the meantime, putting his bag down on the chair next to him.
Beanny was quick in preparing Carmen's coffee, bringing it out to the sloth bun in record time. "There you go, one Special Brew." Beanny places the coffee cup in front of Carmen, a big grin on their face. "Enjoy, and let me know if you need anything else."
Carmen gives a nod in reply, watching as Beanny left to go deal with more customers. It seemed like the line consisted of Cherbuns and Succubuns alike, Carmen had heard word that the coffee here was good, and it looked like it was time to experience it himself.
Picking up the cup, Carmen brings it up to his mouth to take a sip, giving it a few blows to avoid burning his mouth on the hot liquid. He's a little taken aback, this coffee was smokey, if he had to assign a flavor to it he'd say it tasted like a campfire, but more pleasant, with just a hint of sweetness to balance it out.
Carmen finds himself taking a larger gulp of the coffee, it's definitely something he could see himself drinking regularly, he'd have to ask Beanny what was in it. Perhaps that would have to wait for another time; however, the other barista was busy, and he didn't see a break in sight for Beanny.
As Carmen continues to drink his coffee he wonders where the coffee beans are sourced, the succubun didn't know much about the residency of the cherubuns in burrowgatory, maybe there was even a secret third option he never considered. With his cup empty, Carmen pushes it aside. There is the desire to get up and clean his cup, alongside the other used cups sitting in a bin in the back of the cafe, but perhaps it'd be odd to let a customer do any work. He felt odd just sitting here.
"Well, how was it?" Beanny was back, preparing more coffee for other guests.
"It was pretty good, I'll admit, I'm not very knowledgeable about coffee, so it's hard to compare it to anything." Carmen's eyes dart to the back of the cafe, then back to Beanny. There wasn't any real reason to talk about their shared job title, though he had an inkling that Beanny was more than just a barista.
"Yeah? Well, that's alright." Beanny hums in response. "I'm glad you liked it." They look over their shoulder, spotting the empty cup sitting next to Carmen. "Looks like you finished it all. Want another?"
"No, thank you though. '' Carmen says, getting up from his chair. "I should probably be getting home." It was still a bit early in the day, but he didn't want to overstay his welcome, not when the cafe was so busy and he was taking up a seat.
"Alright, well, you're welcome back anytime." Beanny gives Carmen a smile, waving him off as the sloth bun left the cafe.
One can appreciate coffee more by trying all different kinds.
