A Priest Invited
If asked, Blush would argue that he didn’t have much thought on the Fairy Masquerade and even less so a desire to go. It wasn’t that he didn’t think party were fun, but he also didn’t particularly like the idea of parading himself around to every rich and famous person that flocked to Aurora.
Beyond that, he had priestly duties to attend to, he didn’t want to worry about how he looked or what he wanted to wear. Although, if you asked him, the priest would argue he did care about looking presentable at all times.
“Why are you telling me all this?” Primrose scoffed, his eyes disapproving as he tended to flowers in the embassy’s garden. “You invited yourself to look after the flowers and now you’re bothering with strange things.”
Blush rolled his eyes, “I was just explaining why I’m not a fan of balls.”
“Is this another one of your crude jokes?” Primrose hissed.
“I don’t actually make jokes like that, thank you, I don’t want yet another of your lectures.”
“They’re not lectures.”
Blush gave the cherubun a withering look, he didn’t know why he humored Primrose anymore, but maybe, just maybe, he liked to think the other bun was his friend.
“At any rate, I’m glad that I’m not invited to that event. I can’t even imagine what I would do there.”
Primrose hummed, halfway listening at this point. “Oh yes hard to believe anyone wouldn’t invite you.”
“Well thank you prim and proper, I don’t see you being invited.”
“Why would I go to one of your succubun events, who knows what you lot do there. No cherubun should bother with that event.”
Once Blush might have gotten very angry with Primrose for his words, but at this point, he knew the cherubun preferred to hide his curiosities behind insults. It was laughably obvious at this point, but he refused to ever point it out. “Maybe you should be invited, just to shut you up about our differences.”
Primrose opened his mouth, about to retort, when he startled from the sounds of a succubun rushing into the gardens. He stood straight, about to dress down this fool for just waltzing into the gardens, but the newcomer ignored him and went straight for Blush.
The strange bun pulled out a shiny envelope, and without even saying another word, he left the way he came. Much to Primrose’s discomfort since that stranger crushed a flower under hoof.
Primrose stomped his foot, “Why are Succubuns so mannerless? What did they even give you?”
Blush tilted his head, turning the envelope over in his hands. “I’m not entirely sure, it doesn’t have a sender or anything on it.”
“Then open it.”
“I’m getting to it! Honestly for someone who preaches virtues, you have horrible patience.”
Blush decided to ignore the affronted noise Prinrose made and carefully opened the envelope. It smelled almost fondly of floral presume as he pulled out a slender card.
He skimmed over the decorative paper and paused, “You’re joking.”
Primrose raised an eyebrow, “Well out with it, what does it say?”
Blush groaned, “I’ve been invited to the Fairy Masquerade.” He turned the gilded invitation over in his hands, staring at the flowers and butterflies printed on the paper. It was an expensive looking card, no doubt made by Aurora’s tastes for her guests.
Primrose looked surprised for a moment, before he simply sent back to inspecting the flowers. “That’s it?”
Blush grimaced, “Hey come on, you don’t have to act so disinterested. At least make a joke about how I’ll be miserable.”
“It’s a party, not something terrible. You don’t have to go.”
Blush held up his hand, “That’s where you’re wrong, if the head priest finds out I ignored one of the church’s succubun’s personal invitations, he’ll be insufferable about it.”
Primrose once again rolled his eyes, “Then go and have a horrible time, what do you want me to say?”
Blush decided to sit down in the garden’s grass, looking over the invitation with resented eyes. “Fine, I will. Although I wonder if I could bring a plus one, my lover you know.”
“If you gush about Patron again, leave now.”
“That’s not how friends should act.”
“We’re not friends.”
“You don’t mean that, you jerk.” Blush only laughed as he looked around the garden, maybe he was being dramatic. Any party Aurora threw would be a show stopper and he should count himself lucky that she thinks so highly of him.
That still didn’t stop him from dreading the event, but, as it were, this was completely out of his hands now. He would have to go and act as a great member of the church, there was no time to wonder and worry. He was going to enjoy himself or at least pretend he was!
