Waythe wasn't one for plant care, hardly caring for the mess that came with it. However, when he heard from Hops about gardens desecrated by a strange creature, he knew it was something he could handle.
It wasn't a ghost, but he was sure he would solve the case- supernatural or not.
He steps out of his studio apartment, bag on his shoulder, umbrella in hand, and Sir. Tricks on his trail- ready to begin questioning buns to gain more information. As he makes his way to his destination, he meticulously avoids stepping in puddles or getting himself- or Sir. Tricks- rained on.
----
The doorbell of the Imporium chimes as Waythe opens the door, closing his umbrella and shaking it off as he steps inside.
There is a shuffle from nearby and then- a voice. "Welcome to the Imporium..!"
Waythe recognizes the voice as that of Hutch- the owner of this establishment. Not long after, Hutch walks out of an aisle with arms full of pet supplies, nearly dropping them as they turn the corner.
"Give me just a moment, actually!" They call, popping back into the aisle. Waythe assumes to set the items down. After a moment, they reemerge and walk over. "I see you have an imp with you- is there something I can help you with? Any questions, maybe?"
"I do have a couple of questions, but not about my imp." Sir. Tricks zips behind Waythe, hiding under one of his fluffy ears- causing him to chuckle.
"O-oh! I see..." Hutch's brow furrows. "What kind of questions do you have, then?"
"I am here on Hops' behalf to investigate something, and you were one of the buns who gave a clue- I was hoping to follow up on it."
"Clue...?" They tilt their head, confused for a moment before it hits them. "Ah!! The creature that's been eating gardens, right? I was hoping to get more information about that myself, actually!"
"Well, I suppose this is your lucky day, then. Do you have somewhere we can go sit to discuss?"
"Of course! Follow me." Hutch waves a hand and leads Waythe to a door reading "STAFF ONLY"- and they both enter it. Once inside, Hutch gestures to an empty seat, and then they sit at their desk. Waythe settles into the chair with Sir. Tricks hovering by his shoulder. He pats the imp, a small smile creeping onto his face.
"So, what kind of questions do you have?" They ask, ready to listen and answer where they can.
Waythe pulls his hand away from Sir. Tricks- the question jolting him back to action. He quickly reaches into his bag to grab a notepad and pen. "They're simple questions, no need to worry at all." He flips it open, ready to write. "Do you know of any creatures, perhaps imps, with hooves, antlers, and black fur like Furdin? I figured it would be best to ask you considering, well," He gestures, figuring he didn't need to explain further.
They nod, thinking for a moment before they speak. "I did see a creature with antlers recently, and if it were winter, I'd say it was a Freign. However, it's spring, so I don't think that's the case. We could possibly have a varient on our hands. I don't want to jump to conclusions with so little evidence."
He finishes writing down their response and then moves to his next question. "Do you think it could be an unknown imp? One that has kept to itself so much that buns haven't seen it?"
"That's entirely possible, but I don't understand why it would destroy gardens- it's... odd."
There's a beat of silence before Hutch continues.
"Perhaps the hazeblooms could be agitating them? Whatever imp it could be, I mean. I can't imagine they would have much fun with something like that."
Waythe nods, setting his pen down. "For sure, hazeblooms are a hallucinogen, after all. It would probably be very disorienting and may not even taste the best. Perhaps we should keep it in mind as we look into this- just in case."
"Of course!" They shuffle awkwardly in their seat. "I would hate to find a new imp only to find out it made itself sick by eating something it shouldn't have..."
"It wouldn't be ideal, no." Waythe replies, slipping his notepad and pen back into his bag. "But thank you for your time. I will take this information to Hops." He stands, steps over to Hutch's desk, and places a business card in front of them. "If you discover anything else, reach out to me.
They nod quickly, taking the card and looking it over. "Of course, thank you for the follow up! I will let you know!"
Waythe bows his head and then exits the office, Sir. Tricks not far behind.
This may not be ghosts, but he loves a good investigation! >:)
