Spilt Water and Growing Flowers
Under the glass of the greenhouse, muddled between the earthy dirt and sweet scent of flowers, Blush rolled his head back with a quiet hum.
He wasn’t sure what Primrose was doing, but he did hear the gentle sloshing of water. It wasn’t until a watering can handle was pressed firmly into his hand, that he snapped his head forward and looked down. He barely caught the handle, a bit of water spilling out and on the edge of his robes.
Blush took a deep breath, before leveling the cherubun with a hard stare. “Here you go, Blush, mind the water Blush, look over here Blush so I don’t just hand you something you can easily spill.”
Primrose simply tutted, his short tail twitching as he rolled his eyes. “If you weren’t nodding off and paying attention, you would have seen the watering can.”
Blush scoffed, “I was not sleeping and you know it, forbid that I enjoy the beauty of this place.”
Primrose crossed his arms. “I invited you today to water the flowers, you may have thought planting them was the most important part but you also need to take care of them.”
Blush really wish he understood why the cherubun was so dead set on refusing to believe the succubun was clever enough to have already known that. Honestly for someone that complained about manners, Primrose didn’t seem to always have the best himself.
Blush stood up and dusted off his knees with one hand, bemoaning the fact the spilt water caused dirt to stain the bottom of his robes. “Yes, yes, I’ll go water them right now.”
Primrose nodded, his own watering can in hand as he gestured for Blush to stand beside him. “Now pay attention this time, it’s very important to control the amount of water you use for the flowers. They won’t grow if you drown them and I will not have you waste such precious seeds on your folly.”
“Primrose, I have watered a damn plant before.” Blush hissed, before choking when he realized he cursed. “Wait I didn’-t”
Primrose held out his hand. “We had an agreement.”
Blush groaned, before rummaging through his robes and pulling out a few carats. “I’ll have you know this is a ridiculous rule.”
“You agreed to it.”
And Blush did in fact agree to a no cursing rule a few weeks ago when he visited, with the clause that if he cursed he was to hand Primrose exactly three carats. He was pretty sure his total was up to at least a hundred carats now and here he thought cherubuns were above being thieves. He sincerely hoped whatever Primrose was going to use his money for either broke or tasted terrible.
“Let’s just get on with this,” Blush huffed, moving towards a flowerbed and watering a section of pretty blooms.
Primrose nodded in approval, “Good, it’s about time.”
Blush was sorely tempted to add to his swear carats, but he also didn’t want to keep giving money away. So instead, he took a deep breath and adjusted his hand on his watering can. There really was no point in getting mad if it was going to change nothing and at this point, he was fairly certain he was getting used to Primrose. As far as cherubuns go, he had a feeling they could be much worse than the leader of the embassy.
Besides Blush could still enjoy the flowers, even smile and softly stroke their slightly wet petals. It seemed that the water bought out their divine floral scents and as much as he hated to admit it, the Heavenly Meadow did have very beautiful plants.
Primrose spoke up, once the silence seemed to elapse for a few moments, “Does… does the burrows have plants?”
Blush chuckled, “Of course it has plants, what do you think we eat?”
Instead of a scalding remark, Primrose simply shrugged uncomfortably and Blush was suddenly struck by the fact that Primrose really didn’t seem to know that very well.
He cleared his throat, reminding himself to be kind, “Well there’s a lot of plants here, some I'm sure would surprise you.” He hesitated before continuing, “If you would like to, one day, go off into the burrows to look at the plants, I could take you with me. As long as you don’t mind me bringing my partner.”
Primrose seemed surprised, having to right his watering can before it slipped out of his hand. “You have a partner?”
“Boyfriend actually, why did you look so shocked?” Blush raised an eyebrow.
“I thought the ones with your horn shape… didn’t do such things.”
Blush gave Primrose a flat expression, his nose twitching, “You better not say anything like that when you’re out exploring the burrows, assumptions aren’t a good thing.” He shook his head, “Listen, I know lust buns seem like we don’t care about anything but sex and all the things around sex. But I’m not incapable of loving someone, Primrose, my Patron is my entire world and that’s a fact. Simple.”
Primrose had the decency to look ashamed. “I didn’t mean to imply anything about you Blush, I was only curious.”
Blush laughed quietly, “Honestly that’s the best non-apology you’ve given me so far, so you know what, I accept it. It’s fine, Primrose, shockingly you don’t actually upset me too often.”
Primrose was quiet for a moment, before he nodded quickly, “Then good.” He went back to watering, but not before muttering, “I suppose for a succubun you could be worse.”
Blush only shook his head as he continued watering. Maybe it wasn’t so bad being around the other, sure Primrose said some pointed insults at times but that was certainly more like a succubun than a cherubun.
Maybe there was a chance to make cherubuns accepted here, especially now that they would have the food and resources to thrive here. Blush smiled to himself, that’s right, he mustn’t forget that this is where cherubuns were meant to be.
The burrows were their home.
