[Gift] falling home w/ Celestite
Once getting back home to Jackal's place, both buns were rather tired. It made explaining to Misty what happened all the more confusing honestly. All the panting from sprinting didn't help any.
"Please just- just breathe first, and explain after..." Misty was trying to calm them both down, while also trying to piece together what all happened. They hoped they hadn't gotten caught or something...
"Okay..." A wheezy agreement came out of Jackal, as she wandered into the kitchen to get some water. Celestite wandered in as well, getting some water for herself. Jackal chugging the water, and slamming the glass on the counter as if it were alcohol - probably just out of habit though.
Jackal seemed to want to tell what all happened, so she went ahead and started detailing everything. How the plan went, that things got executed pretty well, but that Mercy's office was.. a mess to say the least. Celestite piped in mentioning examples of how many different files of various things they had to sift through until they actually found something.
"You found something?" Misty's curiosity and hope seemed to pique at the side-mention. And they looked onward, trying to read the bun's faces to see what it could be that they found.
"Mhm," Celestite nodded her head, then brought out the glimmering and glowing feather, akin to the one they all found prior but.. obviously more grand somehow. Fairly soon, it was clear something was wrong though.
Misty grabbed their head, and made sounds as if they were in pain.
"Augh... ow..." They stumbled backwards a little, trying to get away from the thing practically. Which cued Jackal to become quite worried. She started looking at the feather, then back to Misty, then back at the feather.
"Put that thing away, it's hurting them!" It took a moment for Celestite to process what was happening, but she put it back in her pocket within an instant. The light quieted, and the room didn't shine so brightly anymore. And Misty's pain seemed to fade as well.
"It's... it's not hurting me.." Misty was speaking slowly, still recovering from the feeling that just struck them. They shook their head, and tried to open their eyes again. "I remember now. I remember what happened.." Their eyes fell to the ground, and it looked like they had realized something quite difficult to comprehend. They looked troubled, and even reassurance from Jackal couldn't help.
"It's okay... Whatever happened, you're safe now." Jackal had put a hand on their shoulder, now rubbing gently and speaking in a gentle tone.
"No no, it's not- It's..." Misty scrunched their face up, then sighing with frustration perhaps? "We need to go back.. to the place where you found me."
Jackal looked at Celestite with a worried expression, that wasn't lost from translation for Misty. "Um.. are you sure?" She looked extremely hesitant, and unsure if that was a good idea.
"Yes... Yes we need to go." Misty looked sure of themself, and ready for something. It kinda surprised Celestite, it was vastly different from the Misty before. But she figured they knew what they were doing, so she nodded in support.
"Alright, here I'll grab my coat and we can head back there. There might be a bit more snow, take a coat yourself if you need, Misty." And with that, Jackal wandered into her room to grab a warming coat. Misty just stood there, looking troubled though. Or worried perhaps?
"Can.. can you tell me what you remembered..?" Celestite asked the other, worrying more and more with each passing second.
Misty looked up at the other, and tried to soften their face a bit, realizing they were seeming much too concerned outwardly. "You'll see, don't worry. It'd be... difficult to explain."
Celestite nodded, and pondered what it could be. Moments later, Jackal was ready to go, and so were the other two. They wandered over to the edge of the city where they had found Misty originally, and watched it get colder and colder. The frigid air seemed to chill their fur, and Celestite regretted not grabbing a spare coat of Jackal's.
The snow also crunched slightly under the shoes, the little there was. It was practically the only sound to exist for the three of them though, as Misty stayed quiet most of the way there.
Once they all made it back to that spot though, Misty turned to Celestite. "Can I have the feather please?" She was incredibly hesitant to fufill the bun's request, thinking about what happened last time. But Misty reassured them, "I'll be fine- my head hurt from the memories, not the feather."
So Celestite handed over the feather as asked, the thing glowing and sparkling so bright it caught all three of them off guard. But once it was in Misty's hands, they raised it and exclaimed something that neither of the others could understand right away.
And then it was bright, so bright that Celestite almost couldn't think. It was mere moments later that she realized something was extremely wrong with wherever she was... at first there was a feeling of being in the air, but now it was like a soft blanket of warm grass below.
She was scared to open her eyes, opening one at a time to witness what had happened. There surely was grass below her body, soft the touch as well. But there was something above that shone so bright, it practically radiated off the grass, warming it gently.
Were they.. outside? Above where Burrowgatory was..? Looking around, it seemed as though that could be the case. Unless they were inside of a strangely sunkissed cave of some sort. Though as Celestite's eyes focused more, she began to notice what the grass patches were on.
They were white, and fluffy... it reminded her of stories the demons told of 'clouds'. Like the ones that formed atop caves but.. these are vastly larger. They were squishy even, like toy stuffing.
Suddenly, and before Celestite and Jackal could even get their bearings, Misty and others seemed to be speaking to each other. No - arguing even, they sounded upset and angry.
Once glancing at the appearance of the mysterious voice responding to Misty, another surprise was unveiled. It was some large creature with ... so many wings and rings around its' head. It was golden, and reflected all sorts of shining and gleaming light.
Halfway listening to what was being said, Celestite realized what the feather was suddenly - it must have come from that other, not from Misty herself. It made sense now, why one gleamed and one didn't.
Though it was hard to make sense of much else, the bright light and the aura of this place seeming to incapacitate both Celestite and Jackal.
Jackal lay a few feet away, trying to sit up, but arms shaking under the pressure of her own body somehow. Celestite herself laid weakly, trying to listen to what was being said. But it was much more of a conversation between the two, rather than something they could comprehend listening in on.
Through the discussion though, the winged creature before them kept calling Misty, 'Dove'. And 'Dove' would respond accordingly. At least the buns knew their friend's true name now, and an interesting one at that, Celestite thought.
The diouglue between the two seemed so confusing, though one series of statements stood out among the rest. "Cherubuns don’t come from the heavenly meadow. We’re the descendants of succubuns, like them, who Melangel kidnapped from our true home—Burrowgatory!"
Dove had connected the dots that Mercy and the others before her at the church never could. That file with that feather, it all related to their friend, and they never would have found out if not for Dove's bravery to find the truth themself.
Celestite looked up at Dove now, as much as she could manage at least, seeing the fire in every word they said. And now seeing the ring among their head, and the statement of what they are - a 'cherubun' - Celestite looked over to the crowd of others.
They were all huddled behind the larger one, some cowering and some curious. Some looked angry, and some looked to the large one as if they couldn't believe what was happening. The bun laid there wondering how the others must feel, and if they've even noticed her with her horns and pointed tail.
There was some commotion and discussion, some of it Celestite was beginning to understand now. And then there was a terrible, wretched side to this other creature that came out. She seemed hateful, spiteful, and angry - screeching and giving Dove what they wanted. To go back home, where they felt they belonged.
It was all so dramatic and terrifying in it's own way, Celestite could hardly guess what was about to happen.
But after a bit of a display from the other, she seemed to open a way back home. It was strange seeing the other side of what had happened to get them here. A mesmerizing but nauseating tunnel in the ground below made poor Celestite quite sick to look at.
And while this was what Dove wanted, to go back to Burrowgatory with their new friends... They were shaking and their eyes were glassy, their words were angry but they still felt sorrow for losing their original home, it seemed.
Celestite figured she'd feel similarly, and stayed close to Dove as they went back home.
The process of falling back down to Burrowgatory was better, a sense of everlasting light fading and the hellfire's warmth returning. But Dove sit, finally crying after the event that just happened.
For a while, they all sat there comforting each other and getting used to everything again. The only thing that finally got them up to go back home was the chilly air.
"How about I make the hot cocoa this time?" Celestite smiled at Dove, now missing their shining ring around their head, and looking exhausted.
"That sounds really good... I'd like that right about now, I think.." Dove nodded softly, wiping a few tears away, as they walked home to Jackal's place once again.
