Raising Hell
“Oh, Lucy, aren’t they just… adorable?” Lydia’s voice takes on an unusually doting quality as she cradles a baby bun in her doll form hands, smiling affectionately as she holds onto the baby bun. She keeps her voice low so as not to disturb their sleep, though it’s clear that she longs for a baby bun of her own—one can hear the longing for parenthood in her very tone.
Lucille, Lydia’s girlfriend, is also in doll form, figuring that handling babies will be much easier with the height and dexterity advantages that doll form comes with. She nods, giggling softly. “They really are…” Sitting in a rocking chair beside Lydia’s seat, she’s holding a baby succubun as well—she holds the tiny baby on her shoulder, rocking back and forth to soothe the little creature. It had been crying not long ago, but now they’d finally calmed down.
Lydia holds the baby bun she’s caring for gently, stroking its fuzzy little head with her thumb. Her touch is feather-light, soft as can be, and she carefully nods her head. “Hey, Lucy…”
Lucille raises her eyebrows, her tail twitching curiosity. “Yeah, my love?”
“Do you ever… I mean, um… have you ever thought about having offspring before?” Lydia asks, her tone cautiously hopeful. Maybe it’s too soon for her to ask Lucille about the future, but she can’t help but wonder—ever since the two of them got together, they’ve really hit it off.
Lucille’s expression slowly shifts from a curious one to a knowing grin. “Oh, honey—shouldn’t we talk about breeding when we’re not within earshot of these little babies?”
“They won’t remember, and we’re practically in hell as far as morals go,” Lydia reassures her. “That’s not what I meant—I mean, it is, but I was more so thinking about our lineage. Y– you know, if we’re not too early on in our relationship for me to ask about that.”
Lucille’s freckled cheeks dimple as she just grins even more. “It’s never too early to ask me,” she whispers, gesturing to her heart-shaped horns. Lydia quietly giggles.
"I know we wouldn't raise them ourselves," Lydia continues, "and they'd be grown up within a year, but… you know."
"That is a cute idea…" Lucy muses aloud; she makes a contemplative expression that Lydia finds to be rather adorable. "I do kind of love the idea of, after a year, coming home to the pitter-patter of our little twenty-something year old adult child."
This manages to get a snicker out of Lydia. Still, she manages to keep her voice soft and hushed, trying hard not to disturb the baby buns' rest. "That's kind of a funny concept, isn't it? We have a child that we don't even raise, and then a year later, they're just… well, they're perfectly capable adults wreaking havoc on Burrowgatory."
Lucille nods carefully. "Yes. It's perfect. Let's do it."
Lydia's blue-green eyes widen, meeting Lucille's hot pink gaze. "Wait, seriously? I… I mean, are you sure you want to do that with me?"
Nodding again, Lucille confirms with an affirmative, "Yes." Then, admiring the tiny baby she's holding, feels a leftover maternal instinct wash over her… She almost wishes the two succubuns could raise the baby themselves, but perhaps a demon caretaker would be better off watching over their baby. "It's not like we'll have that much responsibility."
"And you're okay with… um, one of us being stuck in bun form for a whole month?" Lydia asks, her cheeks reddening. She's rather shy about the idea, clearly, but Lucille just laughs softly beneath her breath.
"I'm okay with it," Lucille answers. "Are you?"
Lydia's eyes flood with tears, her heart so warm one might think that Lucille had defrosted her corporate girlboss heart. "Yes, I am. I… guess we'll have to figure out who gets to be stuck as a bun."
"We'll worry about that later," Lucy reassures her.

Eventually, the baby bun that Lucille is caring for wakes up and begins to wail in a hellish loud tone. This causes a miniature domino effect, waking up the bun that Lydia is caring for. It takes some time for the two doll-form succubuns to find a way to calm them down, but the little baby buns are definitely awake by now.
It takes some time, and bottle-feeding, to calm the babies down to a relaxed level; turns out they both just happened to be hungry at the same time.
"Why don't we... um, let them have some time together?" Lydia suggests once the babies are calmed down. They’re much happier after being fed.
"That's a good idea," Lucy replies. Soon after, the two succubuns set down the little babies onto the floor and give them a chance to interact.
The two babies squeal and giggle at one another, picking up toys and babbling happily.
"How… cute," Lydia marvels, looking from baby to baby.
"They're pretty cute, aren't they?" Lucy smiles warmly at her girlfriend. After a pause, she looks at Lydia with a gentle smile. “You know, even if we don’t end up raising our own baby… it’s nice that we got to spend some time with these ones.
“Agreed,” Lydia says. “Though, the crying is admittedly exhausting to be around… Very overwhelming, if I don’t sound terribly cold to say that. Perhaps it’s best that we won’t have to deal with that for long once we have our own.”
Lucille laughs. “Yeah, I guess so.” Taking a look at the assortment of coloring toys, she decides to take a seat down by the babies. “Hey, might as well play with them and keep them happy, right? Who knows what they’ll remember, but—I like to think that our care helped them survive a little longer and make it into the world a little happier, you know?”
“I think that we did help,” Lydia smiles, sitting next to Lucille and watching as the little bunnies chase one another, giggling and babbling innocently. “And… well, if that’s the case, then it’s more than worth it for us to have spent time with them.”
The two succubuns share a quick kiss before looking back at the babies. Perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad to have a baby bun of their own some day.
Lydia and her girlfriend contemplate becoming parents themselves while watching baby buns at the bunnery.
