Miku at the Toy Fair
The Toy Fair had arrived to Burrowgatory once again. It was certainly a highlight of the year for Miku, visiting the annual fair. Too many carats were sunk into the fair each year, too much space in his apartment filled with ‘useless’ junk. Useless was a harsh word for the treasures he found at the fair but it seemed to be the common description most people used when peering at his cluttered counters, shelves, and furniture. Miku didn’t mind the clutter; he adored it. But it was starting to rub him the wrong way, the way Soju grimaced each time he came over and nearly toppled a pile of figures or plushies. “You’ll never keep a lover, living like this. They’ll run the other way.” Miku wasn’t inclined to believe him and generally scoffed at the idea. He loved his things.
It wasn’t just the toys he found at the Toy Fair that he enjoyed; he loved dressing up and the food, too. The bright orange and yellow robes he chose to wear along with the similarly themed floral headband complimented his yellow fur, he thought. He certainly stood out easily, which he didn’t mind at all. His usual hoodie and sandals or sneakers were ditched in favor of fancier sandals that had a wooden bottom.
And the food? He adored the food. Granted, his terrible sense of smell impaired his tastebuds as well. That didn’t leave him completely unable to taste flavors, however; he could still taste strong coffees and deeply seasoned cuisines. And he certainly felt the pleasant burn of spicy foods. The spicier, the better.
But first, he had a goal in mind for this Toy Fair. He’d seen the booth’s advertisement on social media constantly the weeks leading up to the Toy Fair and he had made sure to remind himself daily by staring at the pictures on the seller’s profile.
A giant, white, winged stuffed plushie, twice as tall as he was in his usual form, with a yellow bill and large black eyes. Spreading the wing looking parts of the plushie revealed sunset colors. It resembled a Corvat a lot, which Miku thought was the intention of the creator. Tucked under one of those wings, attached by thread, was a brightly colored sunset Skeil plush, a bit more obvious in it’s design than the Corvat was. The Skeil was easily half Miku’s size, which was still rather sizeable. It was perfect and huge and belonged on Miku’s bed, among the other plushies and decorative pillows he’s collected over the years.
Walking through the Fair grounds, he studied his map closely, barely avoiding bumping into others. Just to the left up ahead... and there it was. In all it’s glory. It looked there were only two left and a few people surrounding the booth. Heart pounding in sudden anxiety and thrill, Miku darted forward, nearly tripping a few times in his rush and certainly bumping into a few festival goers. He paid them no mind and finally, finally, arrived at the booth.
Although the sprint was short and quick, the excitement and sudden run had him panting as he skidded to a stop in front of the shorter stall table that was there for those not in doll form. Swallowing deep gulps of air, he squeaked out “I’d like the giant Corvat plushie, please!”
