May I Have This Dance? | Drunk Buddies

Mocha, in one word, was plastered.

Really, what else were you supposed to do at a place like this? Socialize? Pah! The real party was here - right at the drink bar. A few like-minded buns came, stayed for a bit, and left… but only one had stuck around as long as xe had.

Xe wasn’t against making at least one friend here. Xe leaned over, eyes hardly visible behind xer glasses, and pointed.

“Hey… so… what’s that you’re driiiinkin’?” Xe asked, staring right into the other bun’s glass.

Xe couldn’t help but make a small “Oooooh” as xe caught xer reflection in it.

Damian couldn’t help but laugh a little at the bun that had just approached him’s antics, a few extra puffs of smoke escaping past his lips as he did.

“‘nd how many drinks’ve you had tonight?” There was a certain playfulness in his tone. Also, it wasn’t like he had any right to judge. He had lost count just how many drinks he himself had downed, which was par for the course for the pride bun. His tolerance was pretty high, but… Before answering the other bun’s question, he first had to take a look at his drink again.

“Mmm…s’one of the new ones. Think this one was called Gold Fashioned?” The taste wasn’t anything too interesting, but bun was the glass it came in heckin’ pretty.

All the while, while he had been thinking and answering xer question, Damian turned the glass he was holding this way and that and, while the greed bun that had approached him seemed to be looking at xer reflection in the glass, he took amusement at seeing the Gold Fashioned reflected back in xer glasses. “Have y’tried it yet?”

“Don’t think so… I like the one with the, uhh. The wings.” Xe wiggled xer fingers in the air as xe said it, as if that would help illustrate the mental picture. “I hear’d someone said that if you drink enough, you could get them… ooohg. I’ve had… um…”

Xe began to count on xer fingers. Going up to ten… but then frowning, and going back down again… hmm.

“I think… more than five? Uhh… I’m not good at math.”

Xe turned to the bartender, and slammed xer hand on the table a little too hard. “I’ll have five of those! The– one he’s got!”

The bartender raised an eyebrow, but began preparing one - clearly mixing it with water to dilute it. Mocha didn’t seem to notice.

Yes, of course, the one with the wings. Damian knew exactly which one that one was. Totally. Just, y’know… Not right now. Not fully, anyway.  He was pretty sure he had tried some of that one, too, a while back… But he wasn’t opposed to having some more. Just to remember what exactly it tasted like again.

His eyes widened slightly when the other bun suddenly slammed xer hand on the table, but he was pretty quick to shake it off before turning to face the bartender himself. “‘tually, while yer at it, gimme another one or two of those…” He paused and thought for a second. The one with wings, the one with wings, hmm…. “...fairy?” Fairy something, but he couldn’t quite think of what. It was on the tip of this tongue, but…

Not that he’d admit that he couldn’t fully remember the name himself. He believed the bartender knew well enough what he meant.

The bartender nodded slowly - he’d at least gotten half of the name right. They began mixing up another as they slid the first Gold Fashioned Mocha’s way.

“Trust me, they’re soooo good,” Mocha said, as xe took a big gulp of xer new drink - and immediately wrinkled xer nose as xe tasted it. “...Mm. Huh. This one’s all metal-y…”

Xe took another drink, this one a little more cautious - trying to see if there was any particular part of the flavor that xe wanted to focus on, or distract from. All that resulted was the same grimace from before.

“...Well, this one’s okay,” Xe said, clearly trying to downplay xer previous reaction. “Could maybe use more, uhh… sweet.”

So, okay, maybe Damian had had one too many drinks. After all, it was the only way to explain the way he practically spit his drink out when he saw the face the greed bun made after having tried a sip of xer drink. The only way. He usually had better self-control than that. … Usually.

Still, he managed to get himself and his abrupt little giggle fit together to not make much of a scene, and proceeded to pretend there wasn't a good fifth of his own drink…probably splattered against the bartender.

Whoops.

"Hey, if you don't want it I'll have the rest of it." He offered. Was he gonna be nice and offer a trade? … Nnnoooooo? Though not because he wasn't nice. Damian was a fucking nice delight. It just honestly hadn't crossed his mind.

…that, and Fairy-something truly was the better drink of the night.

Mocha pondered this, with a similarly dramatic expressive journey as before. Damian could see the way xe frowned, raised xer eyebrows, and possibly took a glance back down at xer drink from beneath xer glasses - before lowering xer eyebrows… raising them a little again…

And finally, scooting the drink across the table over to him.

“Not much left of it, though,” Xe said, grinning a little. It was true - the cups were pretty small, almost as much as a shot glass, and xe’d had more than half of it. It was hardly something Damian would call a drink. Maybe a sip, if anything. Perhaps this other bun had decided it was funnier to hand over such little alcohol to someone who’d asked for it. Well, free was free.

“So… question,” Xe asked after a short second of silence, “Are you gonna be staying long? ‘Cuz I was thinking… this place is fun, but what if– and hear me out– I’ve heard some other buns are gonna be bar hopping after this and that sounds. So fun.”

Oh, sweet! Damian was pretty quick to snatch up the actually offered up remains of the greed bun’s drink. He muttered a quick “Bottom’s up!” before downing what little was left in one go…and then paused. Looking back down into the empty glass with a bit of a questioning gaze. Huh… This tasted a little less…potent? Than he remembered it usually tasting. Had it been watered down? That just made an already kind of inferior drink that much worse. The fuck?

Inner musings aside, he went back to his original drink, partially in an attempt to chase down the disappointing drink with something…less disappointing. He did raise an eyebrow mid-sip. The only indication he gave the greed bun that he was, in fact, listening to what xe had to say. Bar hopping after the gala, huh…?

Yeah, that was a little lot more his style. “Sounds like a good time.” He replied after setting down his now empty glass of Fairy-something. “Think I wanna do one more quick round of the place before callin’ it a night, but if you and any of these other buns are still around I’m totally in.”

After all, who didn’t enjoy drinking themselves into oblivion when given the chance? The inevitable hangover sounded a lot like a future Damian and everyone else who joined in on the bar hopping adventure's problem.
