[Comm] Marina's Diligence 2
Skipping through the streets of the burrows and humming songs to herself, Marina looked around the houses and tried to determine where her friend Dove’s house was.
She still wouldn’t believe she had been called to the embassy by Primrose, she heard that cherubun would never bother to ask for the help of a succubun. Although, she was suspicious that he was using her for free labor since when he told her, it sounded less of a question and more of a demand.
She didn’t think it mattered though as she glanced at the bag on her side. The errand, after all, was a gift from that posh cherubun to her friend and she thought it was nice of Primrose to set aside some tea leaves. He must know them very well to do nice things for them, especially growing them tea leaves.
After a while, she was outside of Dove’s door and happily knocked on it with a clear rap of her knuckles against the door.
There was a moment of silence, before the door creaked open and Dove stuck their head out, “Hello, who is it… Marina!” The cherubun instantly pushed past the doorway and pulled their friend into a hug.
Marina eagerly hugged them back. “Dove!”
The pair stood there for a moment, before Dove tilted their head, “Wait hang on, how did you know where I lived? Not that I’m not happy you came to visit.” How couldn’t they be when Jackal was busy today and they had nothing to do? A visit from a friend was perfect.
Marina held up her bag, the faint scent of tea leaves strong through the burlap. “Primrose sent me with a gift!”
“A gift?” Dove tilted their head, before their nose twitched, “Oh! Is it the tea leaves he grew?”
“It is!”
Dove gave a little wiggle of happiness before they grabbed the bag. “I was just about to ran out of tea, I thought I would have to go to the store alone.” Something that Jackal wasn’t a fan of, but with the envy succubun out, who would have stopped them?
Marina shook her head, “I hate going to the store alone, I get too distracted by all the cute things for sale.”
Dove agreed, “Yeah, Jackal told me I buy too many things when I go alone. Since she isn’t there to stop me.”
“Is Jackal here?” Marina asked, feeling curious since she hadn’t heard anyone else inside.
“No, no, she had a meeting with the envy support group, she won’t be back for hours.” Which made Dove feel very alone.
They both were silent for a few moments, before Dove suddenly jolted, “Wait I know! Do you want to have some tea with me? We haven’t gotten to sit around since we planted the ambrosia seeds.” Which honestly wasn’t that long ago, but they always did miss their friends no matter how much time has passed.
Marina looked delighted, “Really? I can come inside? I can’t wait to see how cute your place is!”
Dove laughed, “It’s not that cute, or at least not all cute, remember Jackal lives here too.” They moved to the side, letting Marina walk past them.
“I’m sure she likes some cute things,” she giggled, “She kept you after all.”
Dove grew flustered and gently tapped their friend’s arm, “Don’t you start with that again.”
“I’m not starting anything.”
“Marina.”
Marina covered her mouth as she laughed again, “I’m sorry, I don’t mean anything by it. Let’s go get some tea.”
Dove pouted slightly, but they still lead her to the living room.
Marina was charmed by the space, glancing at a few doilies that slightly clashed with the dark table beneath. She wasn’t going to say anything, but there were plenty of little touches that were so entirely Jackal and some that were no doubt Dove added. Bright colors and dark, Marina thought this was the perfect place for her friend. It felt like love.
Marina cleared her throat, “So what kind of tea is that?”
Dove tilted their head and gave the bag another sniff, “If I had to guess, probably black tea, but it could be green and that’s just the smell of the burlap.”
“Oh Primrose didn’t tell you?”
“He just said he would grow some tea leaves for me.”
Marina nodded, “Still really nice of him, I’m sure it’ll taste great no matter what kind it is.” She hoped at least, Primrose didn’t seem the kind to do that to other cherubuns. The jury was still out for succubuns but it wasn’t like the gift was meant for her!
“It definitely will, Primrose is really particular about his plants, I even think the ambrosia we planted will turn out perfectly.”
“But we’re the ones that are going to tend to them?” Marina muttered, looking confused.
Dove snickered, “We will, but I can already imagine Primrose sneaking in to make sure we’re doing it right. He thinks it’s a big honor to be able to grow his own ambrosia and since the seeds are rarer than the plants of the burrows, he makes sure they’re growing right.”
Marina grinned, “And he doesn’t trust succubuns like me to do it right?”
Dove looked a little awkward as they smiled. “Well I’m hopeful he will… come to better understand succubuns one day.” Maybe even make a friend or two if he could.
“Come on, let’s not talk about this, let’s make some tea!” Marina quickly changed the subject, if only because she didn’t want to talk about Primrsoe and ambrosia the entire time she was here.
“Right! I have to show you the cute tea strainers I have, Jackal got me one shaped like a furdin.”
“What? That’s so cute, I want to see! Bet I can find it first!”
The pair raced off to the kitchen with the tea leave bag in tow. Once again, proving that the pair were very similar, in their love for both their friends and for the world around them.
