baby bun season
It’s baby season, apparently. Vytal was not aware of that as ey reported to the Church this morning, planning on playing the organ for the service. Ey wore eir best suit, as ey always do, and showed up bright and early. It stands out sharply now, standing in the entrance and staring out at the many people who are scrambling around in nun habits.
They’re flowing in and out of the Bunnery, a general sense of frantic-ness to all the movements. Vytal moves further forward into the Church, wondering if this means the service had been postponed. Ey plan to just lurk a bit, figure out if eir getting paid today, and then disappear back home if not.
That plan is abruptly ended by Mercy wheeling out of the Bunnery and taking em by the hand.
“Vytal! Wonderful to see you, here,” they say, pressing a bundle of clothes into eir arms. “The service was canceled today, it’s all hooves on deck. Put this on, come help.”
Vytal looks down at the nun habit in eir arms. Ah. Not exactly what ey came here to do. Ey cock eir head and raise an eyebrow.
“I’ll pay you for the trouble,” Mercy interrupts before ey can complain. “As if you’d played for the service.”
Again, ey’re not exactly a babysitter. But it can’t be too hard, right? Ey shrug. “Very well. I’ll change and meet you in the Bunnery.”
Mercy gives an appreciative nod and whirls around to return to their station in the Bunnery.
After changing into the habit, Vytal makes eir way into the Bunnery. Ey are just handed two baby buns and an accompanying two bottles, and told the basic instructions on how to feed them. That seems easy enough, and ey find eir way into a mostly empty corner of the Bunnery. Some random bun in an ill-fitting habit is hovering around, clearly unsure of how to help, and Vytal shoos them away too.
Ey get comfortable on the small couch, crossing eir legs underneath em and looking down at the two babies. One of them was pale yellow with spiralling dark black patterns across their tiny ears, their eyes shut tight. Ey pick them up with a single hand and run a thumb over the top of their head. The baby only meeps softly, barely realizing it’s a real living creature. Cute, in a way. They aren’t fussing too much, which is a definitely plus. Ey isn’t too sure ey would actually deal with a fussy bun. Probably would just stand up to trade with someone else.
The other itty bitty bun is a pure blue with a soft pink gradient along their legs. As they teethe on Vytal’s finger, ey can feel the beginnings of fangs. And those hooves, just a suggestion of it now, but ey can tell they’ll end up as claws. Cute. All these little traits of these buns make em realize how little ey really knows about how ey was as a small bun, during eir time with Murmur. Did ey have those sharp hooves as well? What did the bun looking after em think about em when ey were in the Bunnery.
That topic is only really of interest for a short time, before the blue and pink bun begins trying to roll their way out of Vytal’s lap. Out of boredom, maybe? Who knows what goes through the undeveloped minds of these barely-furred little beasties.
Ey scoop them up, setting the pale yellow bun in eir lap as ey cradle the blue bun with a hand and begin trying to feed it with the small bottle of milk. They don’t really seem to be too interested at first, pushing away at the nipple of the bottle with a minuscule hoof. Then, it seems, they press hard enough for the first droplet of milk to come out of it. After that, it’s off to the races. They realize it’s food and, more quickly than Vytal would have expected, drain the entire small bottle. Ey suppose the babies need all the nutrition they can get if they’re going to almost quadruple in size. Maybe this little one would end up with gluttony horns though, since they continue to paw at the bottle even after they’ve drained the entire thing.
Vytal places the fed baby bun on a pillow next to em, keeping a close eye on them as ey offer the other small bottle to the pale yellow baby. This one latches much quicker and drinks their milk much slower. Ey wonder exactly how much of these personalities would be reflected when they grow into thinking and feeling buns. Were ey as sly and devious as ey are now when ey were nothing but a handful? Ey like to think so. The second baby bun gets their fill and Vytal places them next to the other bun on the pillow.
Ey look around at the other people in the Bunnery. It seems most of them are doing some manner of entertaining their assigned baby buns. Some still feeding, some playing inane games, some just holding them as the buns sleep. Ey look over to the two buns on the pillow. Should ey be holding them? Does that benefit them in some way? With a shrug, ey pick the two baby buns up again and get comfortable. Ey sit back against the wall, holding the two buns in a cradle in eir arms.
Might as well get some shut-eye, if ey will be paid all the same.
