does this burger even exist
Gripping the doorhandle, Dexter jerked the door open just a peek down at the poor Nest Dash worker that still had their hand up from knocking on the door. They looked up at him in nervousness, "U-Uh, d-delivery for Dexter...?"
They held out a bag of food from a local food truck, to which Dexter snatched from them and swapped a bag of carats to their hand as thanks, then slammed the door shut. He couldn't wait any longer. The desire, the craving was too much.
Dexter quickly went over to his kitchen table, practically ripping open the bag in anticipation as he pulled two containers out. Sitting down, he couldn't help but wipe a little drool from the corner of his lips as the scent hit his nose. Oh god, he needed to dig in now. Before he was able to enjoy his food, however, there was a knock at his door. He groaned loudly and stood up, stomping his way over and opening it again just a slight crack, "What."
It was Hildegard. How unusual, he thought, she usually never comes out to his apartment. Regardless, his feelings currently were sour for her interrupting his meal, "Go away. I'm busy."
"Huh? How dare you act such a way in my presence?! I should whip you right now just for your tone!!" She hissed and pulled out her whip, cracking it in a threatening way. Dexter stared at her in annoyance, "...I told you, I'm busy. Come back later."
"Man. What is it that is so important that I can't come in, hm?" She shook her head and put her whip back...wherever she keeps it. He wasn't about to find out where.
Dexter gazed at the ground, sighing. He really didn't want to put up a fight with her, especially with the fact his food was starting to get cold. He moved out of the way, letting her step inside and shut the door behind her.
"Oh? Is that takeout I see? Man, why didn't you get any for me~?" Hildegard began to walk over to the table, her heels clicking on the tile floor. Dexter immediately ran over and stopped her, "D-Dont you DARE eat any of that!!"
"!!" She stared at him, then raised an eyebrow and gave him a strange look, "...Wasn't planning on it, Dex."
"...Ugh, I'm sorry," he sighed and pulled away, "I've just been craving this stuff for months now. You know some of those food trucks only open during this time..."
"Yeah yeah, I know." Hildegard waved her hand in dismissal, "What is it, anyway? Whatever it is is probably gross."
"..." Dexter sat down at the table, and finally got the chance to open the containers to gaze at his food in its magnificent glory, "A grilled carrot burger with raspberry jam, along with sweet potato fries with pickles."
Hildegard practically gagged at the sight of his food, "Yep, nope, that's absolutely downright rancid. I'll just leave you to it before I hurl my guts up-"
Hildegard immediately left the vacinity, going off to the living room to recover, crash on his couch, and watch TV. Dexter silently thanked the gods, then immediately dug into his food.
It was like he bit into ecstacy itself, the grilled taste of the carrot, the sweetness of the raspberry jam with the tomato and lettuce, not to even forget the savoriness of the sweet potato and vinegary bite of the pickle. He didn't even care he was making a mess, around his mouth covered in jam and specks of carrot. The jam was also dripping onto the table, to which he quickly swiped up with a finger. He couldn't let any of this go to waste.
Once he was finished, he sat back and let out a content sigh. Yeah, that definitely hit the spot, and yet...
Dexter's phone caught his eye on the other side of the table. He stared at it for a long while, then reached over and picked it up. It wouldn't hurt to order another one...
